Kicking and Screaming Review

I'd have to say that this movie was a classic Will Ferrell movie that brings loads of comedy.
The style that Will brings to the table time and time again continues with his latest movie
Kicking and Screaming.

Kicking and Screaming is a story about Phil (Ferrell) and his father, Buck's (Duvall)
relationship with each other. Buck's life revolves entirely on competing and winning, whereas Phil has never been a winner in his entire life. Back in Phil's early days he was a soccer player for his father's team, however his father would bench him because of his lack of hand-eye coordination and athletic ability.

Phil's past resentment of being upset about sitting the bench is reincarnated when Phil and Buck end up having kids at the same time (I know...it's a little odd for you and your father to have a new son) The kids grow up to be fully capable of playing youth soccer for their grandpa (and father) Buck. Phil then becomes upset when he goes to view his son's soccer game and finds him sitting the pine just like he had. Phil attempts to speak to his father about it and his father found a solution, he traded him... to a much worse team so he could get some playing time. This infuriates Phil and would ultimately lead to his taking over of the team and using legendary Chicago Bear head coach Mike Ditka to dethrone his father. There's not really much more to say than that without me giving away some of the funnier parts in the movie... and trust me there are a lot of them.

I thought this movie was quite hilarious and sticks to the forte of Will's previous works. His unathleticism seems is extra funny because of his size. It's definitely worth going to see and buying on DVD, because I'm sure there are a whole lot of deleted scenes where Will has to be doing something out of the ordinary.

"Kicking and Screaming" opens May 13, 2005 and is rated PG. Comedy. Directed by Jesse Dylan. Written by Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick. Starring Will Ferrell, Robert Duvall, Kate Walsh, Mike Ditka.
