“Headstrong to take you on!...” oh wait wrong album. Yes this is the band with that song that we all remember from several years ago. This is Trapt's new album Only Through The Pain. It is essentially the same as any other alternative “rock band,” not something that makes you bat an eye to the amazing lyrics or music style.
Trapt is an alternative rock style band. On Only Through The Pain though, the tracks are just…tiresome. They sound like any other popular teen rock band with song titles like “Who’s Going Home With You Tonight” and “Whenever She Goes.” Only Through The Pain is set up to be your basic alternative styled music. Following their self titled album Trapt and 2nd album Someone In Control, their new release Only Through The Pain is honestly not going to improve their standings in the alternative world. The tracks are bland, the lyrics have little or no substance and everything literally sounds exactly the same.
With nearly identical lyrics and music as their previous albums, this one is a surefire dud. Only real hardcore fans of the band should buy this album, as it will not win over a new fan base, especially with so many alternative bands out today that are more appealing to a general population of music listeners.
Overall this is not something you should even blink at if you’re not a die hard Trapt fan, simply because of the amount of better alternative music out there today that can easily be found. It’s got Blink-182 syndrome, they released one good album and after that it’s just like, "who gives a damn?"
"Only Through The Pain" is on sale August 5, 2008 from Eleven Seven Music.
