The Notebook Review

"As teenagers, Allie and Noah begin a whirlwind courtship that soon blossoms into tender intimacy. The young couple is quickly separated by Allie's upper-class parents who insist that Noah isn't right for her. Several years pass, and, when they meet again, their passion is rekindled, forcing Allie to choose between her soul mate and class order. This beautiful tale has a particularly special meaning to an older gentleman who regularly reads the timeless love story to his aging companion."

Let me start this review out by saying I did not want to watch this movie, I had no intention to, after I bought it for my wife I was content never to even see the box again. Well that of course did not turn out the way I planned. I did watch it, and I hate to admit kind of liked it. It's not a very new story. The struggle of love between monetary classes, but this story tells it in such away that my wife describes it as "The best chick-flick ever made" and since she's seen all of them, I am going to take her word for it. The studio was so sure that this movie was going to make people cry that they included a coupon for Kleenex in the box. And it does, I have to state now: no, I didn't cry, it did choke me up a little bit but no tears here, my wife on the other hand was in tears (this was her third time watching it by the way).

Good work on the flow of the story, they did a great job of switching between the different eras, and the War scene was also done really well (yes gentleman there is a war scene) considering this is a love story.

All of the actors really did a wonderful job, nothing was over acted and they were all very believable in their roles, the two that really stand out though are James Garner and Gena Rowlands, they really portrayed there characters well, (the part with the young lovers isn't really that moving but once you get to the old people is when the Kleenex will come in handy)

The music for this movie was perfect, it fit together with all the scenes very well. I have to say without the musical score the movie would be as good as it was. Again great job, I don't really know anything about camera angles but I know when there really bad, and these were not.

For females, if you love really good sappy movies you can share with your girlfriends while eating bon-bons then this is your kind of movie, just keep the Kleenex handy. For the Fellas, if you want to score some major brownie points with your lady, surprise her with this movie one night, and just make sure you brought an extra shirt because 9 times out of ten your sleeve will be soaked by the time its over.
