Great movie. Great, great movie. I won't say a word about its story line - not one.
Joel David Moore and Jeremy Danial Boreing wrote the script. The script is amazing.
Joel David Moore also co-directed with Adam Green, who last presented us with the superb Hatchet. Spiral couldn't be more different from Hatchet if it wanted to be. Both are amazing. Amazing, amazing films.
There is more depth to Spiral than I can possibly delve into. It's an immaculately-designed, nearly flawless thematic, dramatic and directorial success in virtually every manner the most careful and studious of viewers could draw attention to. I refuse to tell you all one single thing about the story. Refuse.
I\'m segmenting my sentences and paragraphs to indicate just how precisely and delicately the subject matter in Spiral is handled. I refuse to tell you what the subject matter is. Know that it is real, it is powerful, and it is frightening. Not only that, it's touching and colorful and dark, steady and panicked. Boundaries which are broken throughout the course of the story dramatically change the way you view the film.
We experience our input from several perspectives which differ drastically in their stability and composure. Like the greats before them, Green and Moore understand the contextual nature of how subject matter should affect the viewer's perception of the events. In Rosemary\'s Baby, the first handheld shot is that of a crowded city jumble surrounding a bloody corpse on the sidewalk. Like Polanski, the film\'s rules are broken only when they should be in regards to the current developments.
Joel David Moore also stars in the film as Mason. Mason is a person. Joel plays Mason flawlessly and seemingly effortlessly. Joel will win Oscars. Amber Tamblyn plays Amber. Amber is a person that knows Mason. Amber Tamblyn is very good at playing Amber in Spiral. Zachary Levi plays Berkeley. Berkeley is another person that knows Mason. Zachary Levi is a fine, fine performer. Zachary Levi is very good as Berkeley.
Todd Caldwell does the soundtrack for Spiral, along with Michael Herring. The music in Spiral is damned, damned brilliant. It is a living, breathing entity. It has a soul. Will Barratt does the cinematography for Spiral. The cinematography in Spiral is damned, damned brilliant. It is lurching, energetic, and awesome. As is the editing by Cory Livingston. The editing by Cory Livingston in Spiral is awesome.
The commentary by the filmmakers on the DVD is awesome. Moore dominates. People laugh. Lots of voices, all of them smiling. You can hear them smiling. They all know this movie is good. They know it damned well. Damned, damned well. This isn't as great a commentary as the one on Hatchet, but it is better than most commentaries on movies that are not Hatchet.
There is a making-of on the disc. It is short, and tells very little about the making of the film. But it is awesome. The promos which appeared on Starz two years ago could be bunched into one short thing, but they\'re instead 3 very short things. There is a trailer.
This movie is awesome. This disc is cheap. Buy it. Buy it so you can know what it\'s about. Or Google it. Just don\'t ask me. I won't tell you.
