Lucky Mason Dash Disick. What other baby has an entire television show devoted to his conception? Very few, fortunately for the rest of the children in America. It might make them jealous...right.
Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami: The Complete First Season is so downright embarrassing, I'm almost ashamed to review it. That said, I barely needed to watch the DVD, because I'd already seen most of it. Yes, like everyone else with too much time on their hands, I caved to Kourt and Khloe long ago, wondering how well they would do without their actually "famous" sister Kim leaning over their shoulders all the time and causing so much drama. The answer is pretty much what I expected: they're just as dramatic, crazy and bad at acting as they are on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
However, with much more camera time now that Kim's giant, uh, face is out of the picture, the girls develop even more angst and issues while in Miami. Khloe and Kourtney face trials together such as opening a store in less than a week and running out of gas in the Everglades. On a more serious note, Khloe nearly gets fired from a radio show when she forgets her DARE education and doesn't "just say no" to drugs. Kourtney ends up with the bulk of the turmoil, as she realizes her new buddy is bisexual, copes with her feelings for Scott (if you don't follow Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the guy is Kourt's on again, off again boyfriend and a total douche) and gets knocked up with his child. After a visit to the gynecologist to make sure she isn't so illiterate she misread her pregnancy tests, it's time for the ladies to head back home and let their new pals and the citizens of Miami recover from their crazy sexcapades and the sight of Khloe in a bathing suit.
For the Khloe lovers, don't be fooled into thinking that the DVD set is all about Kourtney, Scott and their love child whose middle name was taken from the sisters' boutique. Khloe gets her own disc this time, and it's all thanks to Lamar Odom! Yup, it's exactly what you're thinking...disc two is a bonus disc featuring the Kardashian wedding episode. Because it's not enough to document Kourtney's "oops, I'm pregnant" moment, the E! crew managed to film Khloe's entire (3-hour) courtship with Lamar, and the whirlwind wedding plans, as her family tries to put together the event of the century in nine days. It's a wedding more lavish and over the top than anyone outside of the royal family in England has ever had, so of course it's being taped and put on national television. And the Kardashians know drama better than TNT, so all sorts of shenanigans occur, including Bruce Jenner nearly being ousted as Khloe's escort down the aisle.
Ultimately, the series (which picks up again for round two in June) is pretty much exactly the same as Keeping Up with the Kardashians if a genie granted me my wish and Kim Kardashian didn't exist. Oh, and with slightly different palm trees than the scenery in California. The bottom line is: if you love watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians, you'll enjoy Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami (and maybe even shed a tear or two as Khloe walks down the aisle) and if not, you won't.
DVD Bonus Features
Along with the bonus Kardashian wedding episode, there are a few other special features including deleted scenes from the series so far and some of Khloe's radio show interviews in a featurette entitled "Khloe after Dark." There are also some deleted scenes from the wedding episode. With the exception of an extra episode that fans of the Kardashians will love, none of the additional footage is extremely exciting.
