Lifetime’s made-for-TV romantic comedy I Do (But I Don’t) is now on DVD which may cause many women across the globe to celebrate. This chick flick stars the beautiful Denise Richards and the hunky Dean Cain, a match made in television heaven. Originally broadcast in 2004, you can now add this syrupy love story to your movie collection at home.
Based on Carla Lockwood’s novel of the same name, I Do (But I Don’t) tells the story of Lauren Crandall (Richards), a hardworking junior wedding planner who is given the daunting task of organizing a bridezilla’s (Karen Cliche) upcoming nuptials. Along the way, Lauren meets the handsome and charismatic Nick (Cain), a fireman who is thought to be the groom. Misunderstandings and flirtatious situations arise creating a silly and humorous yarn.
The writing in I Do (But I Don’t) is pretty corny making the film’s actors come off as two-dimensional and phony especially Denise Richards who is cute in this mushy tale but isn’t much of an actress. Dean Cain’s charm as Nick is the only redeeming quality of this otherwise dismal film. He has a great smile and delivers his lines with such ease and pizzazz like a modern day Prince Charming.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I Do (But I Don’t) would make the perfect gift for your loved one. Its cheese factor is high and its production value low however it has a sweet message and it’s refreshing to see Dean Cain acting again sans Superman cape. If you want to watch a predictable by-the-numbers piece of lovey-dovey fiction, I Do (But I Don’t) is the movie for you.
