Chronicling the seedy underbelly of these United States, Gangland gave many Americans insight into a side of life that they’re lucky enough to never face. Yet, the fact of the matter is, for some, the reality of gang life is an appealing choice in a harsh urban setting. You wouldn’t be wrong for finding it somewhat depressing that it was able to make it through seven seasons detailing different gangs. There are just that many.
In its seventh and final season, Gangland takes a look at the North Side Mafia (Denver), Public Enemy No. 1 (Southern California), Asian Boyz, Wah Ching (San Francisco), Wild Boyz (Pine Ridge), Netas (Puerto Rico), Crips (New York City), Aryan Republican Army, Hells Angels MC (Seattle), Vice Lords (Chicago), New Mexican Mafia (Phoenix), and the Black Mafia Family (Atlanta), and then a summary episode of some of the nation’s most notorious gangsters hosted by Ice-T and Snoop Dogg. For those who followed the show faithfully on television, you might notice some discrepancies as far as episodes of the sixth season appearing in this set, but the line separating the seasons was nonexistent, and this is how the chips fell.
When watched in one long burst, the episodes blur together with only a few gangs having truly outrageous exploits that make you look up and truly take notice. Those gangs help to break things up, but even then you become somewhat desensitized when the default expectation for the subjects is that they’ll brutally hurt/murder anyone that gets in their way. It’s interesting, but the recommended way to watch this show is in bunches of two to three episodes.
The season comes out to about 12 hours of content across three discs.
