The internet brought with it a lot of changes in the way information is shared, but most importantly it’s helped us raise awareness of the varying levels of “epic” in a failure. Before that though, when the internet was just a glimmer in Al Gore’s eye, humanity had television programs like America’s Funniest Home Videos and blooper programs, most importantly for sports. What average human being doesn’t delight in seeing the most athletically gifted amongst us fail horribly when attempting to pole vault or catch a pop fly in left field?
MLB Bloopers Doubleheader continues this tradition with two programs devoted entirely to baseball screw-ups, some painful and some just stupid. Actually, a lot of them look painful. Though in this age of economic recession, who doesn’t want to laugh at someone else’s pain? We all enjoyed the Goofy World of Sports as kids, this is like that, but with actual pain being experienced.
The two features in the disc’s doubleheader are “Baseball’s Best Blunders” and “The Funny Side of Baseball”. They’re narrated by John Webber and Chris Kattan, respectively, and each will evoke at least a chuckle here or there, assuming you think a line drive hit right into a guy’s testicle’s are funny. You know what this is, and you know if it still amuses you. Liking baseball really has nothing to do with it. I was honestly surprised to see blooper DVDs are still made, and these two features are pretty recent, so apparently the genre lives on.
DVD Bonus Features There are none.
