Takedown centers on a tortured man trying to redeem himself after he was unable to save his daughter's life. In the aftermath, David’s marriage and job come to an end, and five years later, we find our hero played by Lou Diamond Phillips working as a security guard, and hooking up with girls less than half his age.
One night he finds a crate at his work filled with cadavers, and so begins his journey into a human trafficking conspiracy that puts his life on the line as he sets out to save one girl that survived the massacre, and in turn redeem himself for his earlier loss.
This film does nothing for the regular-Joe Schmo-saving-the-day genre. It’s a rehash of films featuring Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Robert De Niro in that same role: hard-edged men driven to find the bad guys and bring justice to an unjust world. In Takedown you’ll have plenty of Lou Diamond Philips investigating, finding leads, evading those trying to conceal the murders, but then he comes back in full force to kick ass. The film, if not necessarily entertaining, might remind you of Diamond Phillips’ impressive screen presence and make you wonder why he isn’t in more movies, as well as better ones for that matter.
