Continuing to fill out its library of storybooks on DVD, Scholastic has now brought more of Mo Willems’s colorful tales to DVD with his narration accompanying animations based on his words and illustrations. The disc includes three stories to keep kids entertained as they learn about values such as cooperation and improve their problem solving skills. Mo Willems is a great children’s book author, so any issues with the release don’t stem from his work, but rather from the price for a single DVD release with only three stories when Scholastic will inevitably be releasing them as part of a larger set down the road (if they haven’t already) for a better value.
The three stories included here are “The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!”, “Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity” and “Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed”. The first is the story of a pigeon and a duck caught up in a battle of wits over who gets to eat a hot dog. The second story is about a girl proud of “Knuffle Bunny” but then finds out one of her classmates has one just like it. The third is about a mole rat who enjoys wearing clothes much to the confusion of the rest of her family. As a little bonus, “Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed” features the voice of Cher as one of the characters.
DVD Bonus Features
Featurettes include a profile piece on and an interview with Mo Willems, a look at the conversion of “Pigeon” from illustration to animation, and Scholastic’s basic read-along feature that helps kids learn to read as the cartoon plays.
