The Life and Times of Tim: The Complete Second Season Review

Jesus promised that one day the meek would inherit the Earth, but he failed to mention how hellish their lives would be until that unspecified day came. If you’re curious as to that answer then you need look no further than The Life and Times of Tim, HBO’s simply animated series about a guy who has a hard time standing up to his friends, co-workers, girlfriend, and complete strangers and consequently finds himself doing many things he doesn’t want to.  The uneasy brand of comedy definitely isn’t for everyone and its dryness borders on dehydrated. In its second season, The Life and Times of Tim hits a nice pace that sees a handful of belly laughs per episode and just enough awkward humor to make you glad you’re not Tim.

The scraggy animation of HBO’s animated series makes it rather clear that The Life and Times of Tim isn’t about the visual as much as the audio. This is a show for people who enjoy well-written dialog, especially dialog where one part is a powerless, frustrated guy trying to fight for any scrap of dignity the world is willing to give him.  The second season sees Tim hassling a hustler, gaining and losing favor with his boss, writing inappropriate things in a Hallmark card, having a lousy time in Atlantic City, and many other unfortunate situations split between the series’ two-part episodes.

He's a TV junkie with a penchant for watching the same movie six times in one sitting. If you really want to understand him you need to have grown up on Sgt. Bilko, Alien, Jurassic Park and Five Easy Pieces playing in an infinite loop. Recommend something to him - he'll watch it.
