meI've always loved gaming ever since I got my first Atari 2600 with Combat. I'm pretty sure I always will too. I do work full-time outside of JPP. It does seem like JPP is another full-time job at times. I'm very happy at our growth rate and am looking forward to reaching JPP's full potential. We got a long way to go folks, so hold on! It's going to be one hell of a ride!

Arya Ponto

Editor-in-Chief

What makes little ol' Arya qualified to be your ferryman across the river of imagination towards film nirvana? He doesn't know either, but what he does know is that he likes to entertain people with his thoughts on the movies that fist-pounds his geeky heart (so far, it's working). He also wants to assure you that he doesn't always speak in third person. Arya likes to spend his Sundays with hot cocoa, a good book, long walks at the beach, and imaginary fights between Batman and Jesus in which the outcome should be darn obvious.

Lex Walker

Editor - Movies

Lex

He hates The Crow.

Discuss.

He thinks Jason Craig (above) looks like Mr. Clean.

Discuss some more.

He thinks he's better than you. Lex watches everything. He's a TV junkie with a penchant for watching the same movie six times in one sitting. If you really want to understand him you need to have grown up on Sgt. Bilko, Alien, Jurassic Park and Five Easy Pieces. Recommend something to him - he'll watch it. Yes, even snuff films if the plot is good enough.

He's studied everything, held the most bizarre jobs and eaten a live octopus...so now he reviews stuff. Yes, that is his shower behind him. Classy.

Tyler Barlass

Editor - Music

hold2Music is my passion and I tend to listen to anything and everything, as long as it's good. When it comes to most media though I'm what you would call a traditionalist. In other words I don't watch many movies that were shot in technicolor, I have a firm belief that popular music has gone down hill since the 1960s and I like my games in either the 8 or 16 bit variety.

Neil Pedley

Associate Editor

neilpedleypic

Neil is a film school graduate, originally from England now living in New York. In addition to working with JustPressPlay.net Neil writes about film and television for Uinterview.com as well as being a columist and weekly podcast host at IFC.com. His free time is spent acting out scenes from Predator in the woods behind his house, playing all the different parts himself. His recreations never quite reach the dizzying heights of the actual film but he feels that it's the effort that's most important.

Matt Medlock

Music Writer

medlockWhat do I do? Well, a critic is someone who can't do a creative task himself, so he/she must tear apart others who can actually do it. And since I can't play a guitar...

You'll find me in the movie section from time to time, but it's music that absorbs most of my free time. Once close-minded to solely accepting the 90s grunge and hard rock that I was weaned on, my palette opened wide in high school and college, and years later, I'm now committed to listening to whatever I come across now. Except for Nickelback and the Pussycat Dolls. Keep that junk away. Please.

Anders Nelson

Movie Writer

andersIf Anders Nelson could do what he wanted all the time, he'd spend the rest of his life in high school in 1985 or 1994 (one or the other), have an awesome vinyl and comic books collection, and own the majority of the late 70s/early 80s summer blockbuster/horror renaissance on VHS. He'd also have crazy adventures like in high school films, not like in reality.

Erin Burris

Movie Writer

erins_pictureErin is not buff, she’s quite gangly really—but she is a major film buff.  She writes movie reviews because, second to film, her passion is writing.  With a background in writing and cinema studies, she sees film in three ways: as a scholar with an eye for reviewing, as a total film geek and as you see movies.  She sits in the wobbly seat or on the couch just as you do; filled with opinions as the credits roll just as you are. The difference? She puts those opinions onto paper and backs ‘em up with the fact that she loves movies and knows what works and what doesn’t.  As many times as Erin’s been asked to divulge a top ten list, it changes almost weekly—but she always comes back to Annie Hall, Kramer vs. Kramer and by golly, a 90’s romance classic: Never Been Kissed.  All of this has simply been to say that after years of writing and watching, her film reviews are now here for all to see.  Agree, disagree?  Tell her about it.  A good movie buff always loves a debate.

Jessica Guerrasio

Television Writer

jessica-staff-photo

Jessica was one of those poor forgotten children who grew up in a house without cable. This is probably the main reason she is so addicted to television now. She watches EVERYTHING, from reality shows to True Blood to old episodes of Sweet Valley High. When she’s not filming her latest Survivor audition tape, she freelances for various blogs, writes cheesy novels that have yet to see the light of day, and seeks out the most delicious fried foods on the planet.

Jess Goodwin

Television Writer

n46301638_31486751_101Jess's favorite movie is You've Got Mail. She has a penchant for romantic comedies in general, as well as horror movies (specifically those about werewolves). Someday, she'll write a perfect hybrid of the two genres -- a horrom-com, if you will, and an Oscar-worthy masterpiece at that. Then, when a writer or director lashes out at something she once wrote in a scathing but witty review, she'll be able to say, "I'm not just a critic. I'm an artist, too. So suck it."

Mark Zhuravsky

Movie Writer

mark_hotdogplaceMark, a film school student and avid film watcher, is glad to join the staff of JustPressPlay. He is a budding writer, director, and editor and loves all kinds of films. His favorite film of all time is F.W. Murnau's Sunrise. He is a big fan of Martin Scorsese, the Coen Brothers, Woody Allen (a permanent representative for New York's neurotic jews) Michael Bay (yes, Michael Bay, the man knows his way around an action sequence - I abhorred Transformers though), and countless other talented people in the film industry. When not writing about movies, making movies, or watching them, Mark prefers the company of his friends and loved ones. And the occasional novel or video game.

Saul B.

Movie Writer

SaulI feel that movies can be great in many ways. I feel that a great movie could be an artistic masterpiece or a guns-a'blazin' roller-coaster, pure magic or pure camp. There is another type of film, which I detest more than those which are horrible - Those which are mediocre, unremarkable. If I cannot form the words for why I disliked a movie, why I felt nothing for it, why I felt I shouldn't have seen it, then it has truly been a waste of everyone's money and time, including my own.

Ryan Katona

Movie Writer

picofryanI grew up in the Midwest and couldn't be prouder of it.  There wasn't a whole lot to do though, and since not being athletic was one of my favorite pastimes, watching movies became a hobby.  The hobby turned into a career pursuit, which led me to the east coast.  I'm now excited that I get to share my two cents on movies.  I love watching them as much as I do talking about them.  Every movie has at least one good aspect to it, and I aim to find it.

Nickolas Weingartner

Music Writer

portraitnickNick likes a lot of music. With musical tastes ranging from hip-hop to hardcore to indie lo-fi to free form jazz and folk, for him it comes down to one thing - if it's good, than he can dig it. As for movies, the same rule applies. As long an artist does something original, there's something to be respected in that. Too many people are busy creating what's already been created, and there's something to be applauded for when someone breaks free from that cycle and actually does something different.

About Us

JustPressPlay was created in 2005. When it originally formed it was a simplified forums with only a handful of users.

We are currently on our 6th design (which you are seeing now). We've tried migrating to a Web 2.0 feel and operation for the site to make things both more visually appealing to our visitors and easy to use.

The sole purpose of our existence is to provide down to earth, easy to understand reviews on games, music and movies. Almost like when you ask your most trusted friend on whether you should see that latest movie or not. Our reviews are simple to read and you will know by the end of them whether you should spend your hard earned money or not. No fancy language that requires a PhD to read. Just as our slogan says: Real Reviews by Real People.

Our staff is comprised solely of volunteers. That is until we go public and have our stock traded for $50 a share...Wink We work hard everyday to bring you fresh content that you'd actually be interested in reading.

If you like our site and want to be more than just a casual visitor, consider registering on the site where you have access to your own blog where we can see how you feel about things!

If that doesn't appease you and you would like to possibly join our humble staff, check out the Jobs tab up top and see what positions we currently have open.

Humbly Yours,

The JustPressPlay Team
