Microsoft Enters the Internet TV Fray

By Lex Walker

And a bit late, we might add. If you remember last week, we reported that iTunes had just inked a deal with all of the major studios bringing brand-spanking new movie releases to the iTunes Store shore - this deal came years after they'd established an online TV sales record.

Now Microsoft, in a daring move, is vying for a piece of that online TV sales pie. Where have they been this whole time? Trying to figure out why the Zune isn't selling like hotcakes the same way their iPod competitors are. So to catch up, instead of accomplishing a feat more impressive than having major studios release films in the Zunes store on opening day - they're backpedaling.

You have to crawl before you walk. Walk before you run. But apparently Microsoft needs to limp before they do any of that. Microsoft may be a computer and gaming giant but they're really sucking at this whole online media game.

Oddly enough the XBox Live store currently has a bigger library than the Zune store...why aren't the two one and the same? I dunno. But on the Zune's side is the presence of "30 Rock", "Heroes" and "The Office" three shows no longer featured on the iStore after pricing disputes between NBC and Apple. I understand how having "The Office" is a plus...but after the shameful second season of "Heroes"...I'm not sure it's much to brag about.

Microsoft needs to get its ass in gear if it ever wants to have a shot. Maybe they should start developing head implant media players. Thought + voice activated with an input jack hidden behind the ear.

That'd get the Zune in at the ground level of something. Right now it's getting buried.
